Press box in a mess
PRESS BOX: The press box at the P. Saravanamuttu Stadium was
in a state of disarray which made the life of the foreign and local
journalists covering the opening day of the second Test between
Bangladesh and Sri Lanka quite uneasy.
The press box of the P. Saravanamuttu Stadium which was the venue for
Sri Lanka’s inaugural test match, was lacking some of the basic
requirements which annoyed the print and the electronic media. The most
appalling fact was the seating arrangements the back row from which
point the match could hardly be seen and many had to depend on the
television sets installed by the side.
In addition the continuous power fluctuations, endangering computers
used by the journalists and the power lines everywhere along the ground
posed a real risk to those working in the media centre.
The situation was in fact brought to the notice of the Match Referee
Jeff Crowe who in return summoned the Media Manager of Sri Lanka Cricket
Samantha Algama.
However Algama noted that SLC had requested the Tamil Union Cricket
and Athletic Club to upgrade the facilities at the media centre well in
advance which has not been done upto now.
The President of the Tamil Union Cricket and Athletic Club C. T. A.
Schaffter later issued a statement apologising for the inconvenience and
assured remedial steps. |
