Twenty-five member hockey squad for Asian C'ship

HOCKEY: A twenty five member Sri Lanka hockey squad have been picked for the 7th Asian Cup Hockey Championships which is to be staged in Chennai, India from September 1 to 9.

The selection trials were held at the Astro turf, Reid Avenue, Colombo recently among the selected top 45 stickers in the island. The trials were conducted by the Sri Lanka Hockey Federation.

The squad - Ishanka Jayasooriya, P.G. Jayaratne, Prasanna Abeyratne, A.B. Karunaratne, Ishanka Jayasundara, K.S.S. Perera, P.K. Dharmaratne, D.T. Panditaratne, Fahad, Anju Hewage, Diluk Weerasooriya, P.N. Kramar, Dhammika Abeyratne, Mohomed Gazali, Ch Mohomedaminda Sumanaratne, Harsha Hettiarachchi, Nimanka Fernando, S.B. Wickramasinghe, Thusitha Ratnasiri, Iranka Fernando, Thilina Perera, S.B. Dissanayake, Pradeep Priyashantha, M.M. Mulafar and A. Balasooriya.

Under-17 tourney

The under 17 All Island Inter School Hockey tournament for boys will be worked off from July 31 to August 2 at the Astro turf, Reid Avenue, Colombo.

The tournament is being conducted by the Sri Lanka Schools Hockey Association. A number of leading hockey playing schools in the country across ten districts will take part at this championship. The districts are Matale, Kandy, Colombo, Galle, Matara, Puttalam, Gampaha, Badulla, Anuradhapura and Kalutara.

Inter-Provincial hockey

The Ministry of Sports organised mens and womens inter provincial hockey championships of the 33rd National Sports Festival will be played on July 28 and 29 at the Nandrimitta Ekanayake Hockey Stadium, Matale.

The defending champions in both mens and womens categories of this event are Central Province. Nine mens teams and five womens teams have confirmed their participation this time.
