Susanthika wins second gold
ATHLETICS: Susanthika Jayasinghe won the women’s 200m on
Saturday to win a double at the 17th Asian Athleics Championships now in
progress in Lebanon. On Thursday she came up with a fine performance to
win the 100m clocking 11.19 secs.
To win the 200m she needed only 22.99 secs. Her compatriat Sujani
Buddhika finished the event behind Susanthika clocking 23.28 secs. while
Vietnamese girl Vu Thi Huong who was a close second in the 100m had to
satisfy with the third place in this event behind Sri Lankan duo. Her
timing for the event was 23.30secs.
Meanwhile Sri Lanka’s middle distance runner Suresh Abenayake runing
in the final of the 800m finished as the fifth clocking i:56.27secs.
The winner in this event was Saudi Arabia’s M. Obad A. Al-Salhi hewas
able to complete the race in a time of 1:51.73secs. He was followed by
Iranian Sajad Moradi and host country’s Abubaker Ali Kamal. They clocked
1:52.22 and 1:52.88secs. respectively.
