Over to you Transport Minister
The time is opportune for the Transport Ministry to introduce a
legalised fare for three-wheeler operators. Each time a petrol hike is
made, the operators raise their fare by Rs. 10 and today, the fare for a
kilometre has reached ridiculous heights.

According to the three-wheeler drivers, it is the Three-Wheeler
Association that is responsible for this hike and it makes one wonder on
whose authority this Association orders fare hikes from time to time.
It seems to be anti-social because it is the lesser affluent that
hire a three-wheeler to get about. And it seems illegal too because it
has no stamp of authority.
The Transport Ministry could do well to stop pampering this
indisciplined association. It certainly is not what the poorer section
of the public expects from the Ministry, and it is imperative that they
receive a favourable response from the Ministry.

Over to you Minister of Environment and Mayor Dehiwela-Mt. Lavinia
MC
Attidiya Road from Maliban junction near the first culvert always
goes under water during the rainy season. A 30 minute shower is enough
to submerge this stretch of road, causing immense hardships to
residents. This becomes a regular occurrence.

A letter to this effect was highlighted in the People’s Voice column
in May 2007 addressed to the Mayor of Dehiwela-Mt. Laviia MC, this is
due to the blocking of the smooth flow of water by using 3’x8’pipes to a
border canal, filled on top and making the land bigger near house No. 76
on Darmadare Road.
When it rains heavily, it becomes very difficult for the water to
flow from the small pipes resulting in floods.
Why have hundreds of people and road users got to suffer for the
benefit of one person.
We appeal to the Mayor, engineer Ratnayake, Opposition Leader
Kessaralal Gunasekara, the Environment authorities to took in to our
problem.
