BOOST TO LANKA-THAI BUDDHIST TIES

  A Thai Buddhist delegation comprising 46 monks and 34 others led by Ven. Phara Thpsophen Thera, Rector of Mahachulalongkronrajavidyalaya University in Thailand arrived in Sri Lanka on the request of Minister Dinesh Gunawardana to participate in religious ceremonies at Maharagama, Kandy, Dambulla and Anuradhapura. Here the Ven. Thera presenting a Buddha Statue to Prime Minster Ratnasiri Wickremanayake at the Prime Minister’s Office yesterday.

War burden will not be passed on to next generation - Defence Secretary

At this decisive juncture of defeating terrorism the Government is determined to see an end to the war and establish permanent peace in the country without leaving the burden of war for future generations, Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa said yesterday.

Step forward for tourism boost:

New Tourism Act hailed

Stakeholders of the leisure industry hailed the decision taken to implement the new Tourism Act with effect from October 1. “This is a piece of legislation the industry was waiting for a long time and it will create better working relationship between the government bodies and the private sector” said the President of the Sri Lanka Tourist Hotels Association, Hiran Cooray.
