COLOMBO: The Health Ministry National Drug and Cosmetic Control
Authority raided a Pettah pharmacy and seized an unauthorised drug which
claims to enhance the sex drive in both men and women.
The raid followed an advertisement in a local weekend newspaper.
Altogether 400 cans of the unregistered and illegal drug which is said
to delay orgasms was seized, Healthcare and Nutrition Ministry sources
said.
The sources said the drug is a sprayer each can costing Rs. 800.
Legal action is contemplated against the suspect pharmacy. Importing,
distributing or sale of sex enhancing drugs are completely prohibited in
Sri Lanka under the National Drug and Cosmetic Control Act.
Such drugs are also banned in several other countries. This ban has
imposed because it is discovered that such drugs often cause skin cancer
and neurological disorders.
It is also reported that similar drugs are freely available in
several other pharmacies under different names and the Healthcare and
Nutrition Ministry and the National Drug and Cosmetic Control Authority
are taking steps to raid all such pharmacies. All such drugs available
in pharmacies are unregistered and illegal.
