Negotiated end to conflict Govt's aim

President tells world leaders at UN:

The Government launched military operations only to exert pressure on terrorists to convince them that it will not be possible for them to obtain a military victory and its goal remains a negotiated and honourable end to the unfortunate conflict, President Mahinda Rajapaksa told world leaders at the 62nd Session of the United Nations General Assembly.

LTTE kills Catholic priest in uncleared area of Mannar

A Catholic Priest, Rev. Nicholaspillai Packiyaranjith has been killed by LTTE terrorists in an uncleared area of Mannar late last evening. Subsequent to the killing the LTTE launched a false propaganda campaign alleging that the killing was perpetrated by the Army, states the Media Centre for National Security in a press release.
