Bids out for oil drilling

The Government will call for international tenders for oil exploration in three blocks earmarked in the Mannar basin from this month. Petroleum and Petroleum Resources Development Minister A.H.M. Fowzie told the Daily News that the documents have already been released by the Ministry and the tender process was in progress.

Petition filed claiming Rs.100 million from former President

Alleged deceitful release of State land for private golf course:

Two retired civil servants yesterday filed a fundamental rights case against former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga and fifteen others before the Supreme Court claiming compensation of Rs 100 million each from the first and the fifth respondents for allegedly releasing a State land on concessionary terms at Kalapaluwawa Rajagiriya to Asia Pacific Golf Course Ltd, which was earlier acquired from the original landowners for a public purpose of urban development but later used to construct a private Golf Course.

President returns

President Mahinda Rajapaksa returned to the island yesterday morning after attending the 62nd sessions of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. The President and entourage left for the US on September 22.

New gas terminal for Laugfs

 Sri Lanka's gas storage capacity will increase by fifty per cent by Laugfs Group of Companies with the setting up of a new terminal in Galle. Under this project another 5,000 metric tonnes of gas storage terminal will be built one kilometre away from the Galle Port, General Manager Finance, Laugfs Group of Companies, Wasantha Ranasinghe told Daily News Business.
