Records tumble at the Army meet
ATHLETICS: One Sri Lanka record and eight new records were
established and one was equalled at the 44th Army inter-regiment
athletic meet 2007 which concluded at the Sugathadasa Stadium, Colombo
on Wednesday.
A large number of soldiers took part in this athletics carnival which
consisted of 222 events.
On the third and final day, four new records were established. The
first was by P.D.M.P. Wickramasinghe who finished the women’s 200m in
24.83 seconds.
The highlight of the day was the new Sri Lanka record established by
R.M.N.P.K. Ratnayake with an impressive distance of 37.64m in the Men’s
hammer throw.
In the men’s medley relay, the Electrical Engineering Regiment were
the victorious with a new record of 3m 09.38 secs.
The other record was featured in women’s 100m event where T.A.S.
Lakmini clocked an impressive time of 12.50 seconds. B.L.N. Lakmali
established another record in women’s javelin throw where she threw
distance of 56.01m.

Men’s Hammer throw: R.M.N.P.K. Ratnayake: 37.64m (New Sri Lanka
record).
Women’s 100m: T.A.S. Lakmini: 12.50 secs
Women’s Javelin throw: B.L.N. Lakmali: 56.01m
Men’s Long jump: N.P. Dharmarathne: 7.45m
Women’s 100m hurdles: W.M.T.U. Priyangani: 16.31 secs
Women’s 200m: P.D.M.P. wickramasinghe: 24.83 secs
Men’s Medley relay: slvyi reg 3m 09.38 secs
Women’s 1500m: M.M. Rajasekera: 4m 34.69 secs
