Stage set for Presidential Export Awards 2006
THE EDB successfully completed the 2005 Presidential Export Awards
held on August 23 at the Presidential Secretariat under the patronage of
President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
The EDB has called applications from companies for export performance
in year 2006 on three categories to consider rewards.
They are
* Non-traditional Products and services, * Service Providers to the
xport Sector, * Net Foreign Exchange Earnings.
The Presidential Export Awards Scheme recognised by the nation is the
most prestigious Export Scheme sponsored by the Government. It is on par
with award schemes implemented in other countries to assess the
achievements of the business community.
The Queens award scheme - U.K., the Presidential Awards, U.S.A. - The
Canadian Export Awards Scheme - The Australian Export Awards Scheme,
Indian Presidential Export Awards and Pakistan Presidential Awards
Scheme are some mechanisms of recognition of the great achievements of
the export community.
The Presidential Export Awards (PEA) Scheme was formulated by the Sri
Lanka Export Development Board (EDB) to recognise and reward the
outstanding performance of exporters and service providers for their
export efforts in improving the national economy.
The Presidential Export Award Scheme which was first introduced in
Sri Lanka in 1980 is the most prestigious award in the field of exports.
Exports Awards Ceremonies amounting to 11 have so far been held in
December 1981, 1991 July 1992, August 1994, January 1997 and August 2007
to reward a number of exporters and service providers for their
outstanding performance in the export sector over a period of 15 years
from 1981 to 1995. |
