Lanka sparkles at Malaysia International Jewelex Show

A record number of exhibitors and visitors at the Malaysia International Jewelex 2007 (MJF 2007) held from October 4 to 7 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC), propelled the event to unprecedented success with both exhibitors and buyers reporting an increase in business transactions during the four day show.

The 2007 edition was the largest in the Show's 13-year history and set records in terms of visitors, exhibitors and exhibition space.

It will play host more than 100 prominent jewellers from over 15 different countries and regions namely, which attracts more than 12,000 buyers from all over the world, including royalties and socialities to further reinforce its position as the leading jewellery exhibition representing the broadest range of product categories, the utmost convenience and superior amenities.

The "Sri Lanka Pavilion" at 'MJF 2007' was organised by National Gem and Jewellery Authority (NGJA) for the second time. The "National Pavilion" which displayed a glittering array of Gems and jewellery from Sri Lanka presented by eight members of the trade, attracted buyers from Malaysia and other leading consuming countries.

The members of the "National Pavilion" were successful in transacting business and establishing its position as the leading producer of fine quality blue sapphires to the global market.

A few important buyers accepted the invitation extended by 'NGJA' to visit "Facets" Sri Lanka in September 2008.

Malaysia's imports of gems and jewellery from Sri Lanka has increased by 11% in 2006 as compared to previous year.

The major contributor to this growth was gem studded jewellery that touched Rs. 43,068 million in 2006.

Malaysia's imports from Sri Lanka in this Sector constitutes of Gemstones and Gem and Diamond studded jewellery. Participants in the "Sri Lanka Pavilion" were Alankara SKR Ltd., Aroos Gems, D.D. Gems, Hamid Bros, Lanka Kandyan Jewellers, Mermaid Jewellers, The Choice and Zam Gems (Pvt) Ltd.
