Growth in private remittances

Private remittances grew by 17.0 per cent to US dollars 1,758 million during the first eight months of 2007, containing the current account deficit. The overall balance of payments registered a surplus of US dollars 81 million and the gross official reserves stood at US dollars 2,610 million (3.0 months of imports) by end August 2007.
