Over 700 children of State transport sector employees will receive
scholarships from President Mahinda Rajapaksa tomorrow in appreciation
of their achievements at the G.C.E. Ordinary Level examination.
Transport Minister Dallas Alahapperuma told the media yesterday that
the scholarship programme titled 'Sisu Diriya' was launched with the
objective of recognising the invaluable contribution made by the
employees to uplift the State transport sector in the country.
At the scholarship award ceremony to be held at the BMICH tomorrow,
782 children of employees serving in institutions coming under the
Transport Ministry, including 30 students who obtained 10 distictions at
the O/L examination, will be granted scholarships.
The recipients include children from Jaffna, Killinochchi,
Valachchanai, Batticaloa and Kalmunai. The National Savings Bank and the
IDM have sponsored the scholarships worth Rs 15,000, Rs 11,250 and Rs

Alahapperuma said they have already taken steps to ensure that every

"Through this we seek to create conditions where the employees could
achieve job satisfaction and be confident that their hard work will be
duly appreciated".
