New bridge gateway to peace

President opens Sri Lanka-Japan Friendship Bridge in Manampitiya:

President Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday expressed his fervent wish that the new Sri Lanka-Japan Friendship Bridge in Manampitiya would open a new peace road to the hearts of Tamils and Muslims in the Eastern Province.

LTTE intelligence chief among six nabbed

One of the six LTTEers arrested by Navy on Saturday in Olumaduwai, Mannar was a Tiger intelligence leader and an explosives expert. A haul of arms and explosives too were recovered from their hideout, SSP Mannar Division Noel Chandana Kudahetti said.

Bill to protect crime witnesses before House soon

The Government will shortly introduce the Witness\Victim Assistance and Protection Act to Parliament shortly, as an urgent Bill with the aim of creating a climate of safety for those testifying against crime and also victims so that they could be part of the prosecution without entertaining fears of retaliation or victimisation.

Ceylon Glass Rs. 3.7 b. expansion nears completion

Ceylon Glass would be investing Rs. 3.7 billion for a new production plant in Horana. This would be completed in the fourth quarter of the current financial year. Managing Director and President CGCL, Sanjay Tiwari said that with the completion of this project, the current production capacity for manufacturing coloured bottles of different shapes would be more than doubled.
