Lanka gifts library building to Maldives
Minister of Foreign Affairs Rohitha Bogollagama will visit the
Maldives from October 31 to November 2 in connection with the gift of a
library building to the Maldives.
As provided under the Memorandum of Understanding signed between Sri
Lanka and the Maldives on Cooperation in Education, the Government of
Sri Lanka constructed a library building in Male’ for the Maldives
College of Higher Education to assist in the development of
infrastructure for higher education in the Maldives.
The Maldives College of Higher Education which would receive the gift
of this facility will be upgraded to become the first University in the
Maldives.
On behalf of the Government of Sri Lanka Minister Bogollagama will
hand over the library building at a ceremony to the Maldivian Minister
of Foreign Affairs, Abdulla Shahid, who will accept the gift on behalf
of the Government of the Maldives. The President of Maldives, Maumoon
Abdul Gayoom, will also grace this occasion.
During the visit, the Minister will call on the President and the
Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Maldives. A Memorandum of
Understanding on Intelligence Cooperation is also due to be signed
during this visit. |
