NFSCSL services lauded

Director of Public Affairs to the President and the Director JPI,
Vajira Irugalbandara said on Tuesday that the National Federation for
Senior Citizens of Sri Lanka (NFSCSL) is the only national movement
established to ensure the security, economic development, creating a
cultural and social needs of the country’s senior citizens.
He said District Federations for Senior Citizens of Sri Lanka have
been implemented in 20 districts. The federation is successfully
operating only in 10 districts. Addressing the media at Mahaweli Centre
Auditorium Irugalbandara said that the first meeting of the federation
was held in Gampaha.
The second meeting will be held at old Holland Market Complex.
Agricultural Development and Agrarian Services Minister Maithripala
Sirisena will be the chief guest and Transport Minister Dullas
Alahapperuma too will take part in the meeting.
Director Irugalbandara said that 300,000 applications have been
received so far and nearly 600 applications are being sent to the NFSCSL
daily. In addition, Irugalbandara said a nominal charge of Rs. 50 is
charged for membership. All facilities will be provided to the members
of the federation free-of-charge.
The Federation will function as an independent movement. Being
Muslims, Tamils or Sinhalese is not a barrier to join the union.
Everybody can enjoy equal rights in this Federation.
Addressing the media, former Navy Commander Daya Sandagiri said
senior citizens could be used to ensure the defence of the country. |
