Five new disciplines for Beijing Asian Games

The preparations for 2010 16th Asian Games in Beijing was explained
to the media at a briefing here in Macau by its Director General of the
Olympic Council of Asia. HE went on to say that Asia is the hub for
sports in the world.
Asia has been the continent that has introduced many sports to world
which has gained high recognition all aver the world.
Many of the sports that commenced in Asia have been able to get to
the Olympic Calendar too. These have got the spectator liking as well as
the interest of all types sportsmen in the world. This also goes on to
prove that Asia is well ahead of the other four continents when it comes
to sport.
Considering all these factors the Olympic Council of Asia have
finalized to introduce five new disciplines to the coming Asian Games in
Beijing China.
with the introduction of these five sports it will have a total of 42
disciplines competed by 45 countries.
The new sports that got the approval are Cricket, Dance Sport, Dragon
Boat, Roller Sport and Weiqi.
He further added that around 14,000 competitors expected are to show
their proves in 62venues. He said that the work on these venues are
going according schedule. In addition the Organising Committee have
taken great care in planning arrangements for the transportation and
other major issues that is vital for an event of this magnitude, he
said.
Continuing he added that at yesterday’s meeting of the OCA which was
held here in Venetian Hotel in Macau it was decided to include the
women’s cricket too.
When questioned as to what version of cricket is to be added he said
that it is a technical point and that it has to have further discussions
with games governing body The International Cricket Council before
making a final decision on the type of play.
He also said that China has organized many mega sporting events
successfully in the region and for the ongoing Macau Games China has
sent lot of observers and volunteer workers with the intention of giving
them an opportunity to gain experience.
The experience they gain here too is vital for China as they are
preparing for next year’s Olympic Games.
Asian Games which commenced in the year 1951 with only 11countries
participating has grown steadily game by game to reach this level and
that is something that every Asian country should be proud of.
