Mobitel - Bowling champions
Mobitel won the Bowling Champions trophy by scoring the highest
number of points of 629 at the competition which was held at the Excel
World Entertainment Park, T. B. Jayah Mawatha on 2nd November, which was
organised by the Mercantile Rugby Football Association (MRFA).
This bowling tournament was held only for rugby players who had taken
part in Mercantile Rugby Sevens for the year 2005/2006. Fifteen leading
Mercantile firms in the island took part in this colourful event.
The main objective of this tournament is to be a forerunner for the
37th Mercantile Rugby Sevens 2007 and also to create unity and
friendship among the Mercantile rugby fraternity. Each team comprised
four males and one female, who played two sets of games, and four teams
who scored the highest number of points qualified for the finals.
The second place was won by John Keells Ltd with 588 points while the
third place was won by Hatton National Bank who scored 543 points.
The Best Player's award was won by Achalanka Ayagama of John Keells
Ltd, while the best women's player was Annalene Joseph of HSBC Ltd, who
scored the highest among women with 287 points.
The chief guest was rugby promoter Kishin Butani (Managing Director
Butani Group of Companies). Roshan Tissera (Senior Vice President, MRFA),
Mrs. Bakthi Hewage (wife of Lalith Hewage, MRFA), Gamini Rajapakse
(Project Coordinator, Power Scan) and Nishantha Wickramage (former
President MRFA) also graced the occasion.
