All electrified fences to be completed by 2010

All electrified fences proposed to be erected in areas vulnerable to wild elephant infiltration will be completed by end of 2010.

Environment Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka has decided to give priority to the electrified fences erecting process launched by the Ministry.

The Minister has instructed 'Gaja Mithuro' programme co-ordinators at his ministry to take measures to accelerate the process of erecting electrified fences to cover areas where people frequently face jumbo threats.

Ministry figures show that at least 600 kilometres of electrified fences have to be erected islandwide.
