Turkey gives Bangladesh one million dollars in aid
Turkey said Wednesday it was sending one million dollars (675,000
euros) to Bangladesh to help the victims of a devastating cyclone that
killed thousands of people and displaced millions.
"We hope this amount will help the relief efforts in Bangladesh," a
foreign ministry statement said.
Bangladesh has so far received offers of international aid totalling
140 million dollars, and the World Bank said it would additionally
provide up to 250 million dollars.
Millions of people were left without sufficient food, water, or
shelter after cyclone Sidr ripped through the country's southern and
central districts last week, killing as many as 10,000 people and
causing massive destruction.
