People friendly administration for East

The Government contemplates establishing a people’s friendly administration system in the cleared Eastern Province, Public Administration Minister and UNP democratic group’s leader Karu Jayasuriya said.

Minister Jayasuriya was addressing the public at Matara at a ceremony held at the Matara Rahula College grounds to launch a Public Service programme (Janatha Sathkara Seva).

Jayasuriya said that steps will be taken to introduce comprehensive Public Service Programmes (Jana Sathkara Seva) in the East in Ampara, Trincomalee and Batticaloa districts from January next year.

He said: “The Government plans to solve the long standing problems faced by the people in the East by approaching them through people’s friendly public administration systems.”

He said that Janatha Sathkara Seva Programme conducted by his Ministry has been effective in reaching towards the Government’s goal of setting up a public service that is close to the public.

Speaking on the country’s political situation and the budget, Jayasuriya said that if by any chance the Government’s budget proposals were to be defeated at the forthcoming third taking of the budget vote, the result would by no means would be beneficial to the country.

If the Opposition had succeeded in defeating the Government at the second reading of the budget, it would have become a certain victory of the terrorists, Jayasuriya said.

“We, as the UNP democratic group was happy that we were able to contribute towards the victory of the Government’s budget and was able to safeguard the country and the public,” he said.
