Army Chief inspects Yala

Army Commander Lt. Gen. Sarath Fonseka visited the Yala National Park
yesterday morning to inspect the area.
The park has been closed from last month owing to various killings
committed by suspected LTTE cadres. The Army Commander surveyed the area
with a team of senior Army officials accompanied by a senior team of
police officials, military sources said.
He met Brigadier Sudantha Ranasinghe who has been appointed to
provide protection to Yala. They discussed the security situation in the
area at length . Upon being briefed by Brigadier Ranasinghe on the
situation in the area, Commander Fonseka gave directions to improve
security in the area. |
