President Mahinda Rajapaksa hands over the keys of a new Peugeot 407 to Muttiah Muralitharan who established a new world record in Test cricket at a ceremony at Temple Trees yesterday. Muralitharan regained the world record for the highest wicket taker in Test cricket held by Australian Shane Warne. Prime Minister Rathnasiri Wickremanayaka, Speaker W.J.M. Lokubandara and Sports Minister Gamini Lokuge were present.

UNESCO to re-examine VoT issue - Matsuura

Director General of UNESCO, Koichiro Matsuura has assured Sri Lanka’s Ambassador in France and Delegate to the UNESCO, that he will “re-examine the entire issue” on the UNESCO press release issued earlier this week regarding the attack on the Voice of Tigers (VoT) Station, states the Foreign Ministry.

President on three-day official visit to Japan

PRESIDENT Mahinda Rajapaksa will pay a three-day official visit to Japan on the invitation of Japanese Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda from December 9 to 11. The purpose of this visit is to widen existing bilateral relations between the two countries in the economic, political, social, cultural and religious fields, a Presidential Secretariat release said.

Renewed SAARC political commitment must to fight terror - FM

 SAARC countries need to strengthen domestic legal infrastructure to give effect to the obligations undertaken under the various international and regional conventions on suppression of terrorism, Foreign Minister Rohitha Bogollagama said yesterday.

Micro to export SUVs

 

Micro Cars will export their locally assembled Kyron sports utility vehicle to India next year. Managing Director of the Company Dr. Lawrence Perera said they have already sent test vehicles to India and the response was very good.
