“A stairway to the stars” an evening of song, dancing and music,
organised by the Lion Ladies of District 306B2, which was held at the
Galadari Hotel, turned out to be a glittering evening and a big success.
The purpose of this fundraiser was to purchase Eye Screening
Equipment for Lions District 306B2 Mobile Eye Unit.
The main ballroom of the Galadari Hotel was packed to capacity with
over 600 Lions, Lion Ladies and others who extended their fullest
support for the worthy cause.
Hard work put in by Lion Lady Dr. Manel Pasqual, Consultant Eye
Surgeon, Colombo Eye Hospital and patron of the Lion Ladies Association
and her team made the event a big success and a most memorable one. Her
assisting team comprised Vice Patron, Lion Lady Shamala Jeyarajan,
Chairperson Lion Lady Kumari Dharmapala, Deputy Chairperson, Lion Lady
Dr. Rani Senanayake, Secretary Lion Lady Zeenath Marikar, Deputy
Secretary, Lion Lady Fathima Zeenath Cassim, Treasurer, Lion Lady Swarna
Mohan, Deputy Treasurer Lion Lady Nilanthi Peiris, Co-ordinator, Lion
Lady Shyama Silva, Co-ordinator (Health Projects) Lion Lady Dr. Thilaka
Hewage, Bulletin Editress, Lion Lady Susanna Sanmugarajah. Advisors of
the event were Lion Lady Rashmi Perera, Lion Lady Manil Pathirana, Lion
Lady Serini Udawatte, Lion Lady Shanthi Samarasinghe, Lion Lady Sriyani
Gunawardhana and Lion Lady, Shanthi Devadasan.
The committee members who assisted were Lion Lady Sriyani Jayasuriya,
Lion Lady Shiromi Welivita, Lion Lady Piyum de Alwis, Lion Lady
Damayanthi Munasinghe, Lion Lady Chandani Devika Ranasinghe, Lion Lady
Elsie Rekhawa, Lion Lady Grace Premalal, Lion Lady Saumya Bernard, Lion
Lady, Chuna Perera, Lion Lady Berny Alwis and Lion Lady Nelunika
Ranatunge.
Chief Guest was District Governor, 306B, Lion Mahesh Pasqual while
the guests of Honour were the President of the Dental Association of
Belgium Dr. Guido Lysen and his wife Ann.
A significant feature of the event was the personal donation of Rs. 5
million by Dr. Guido Lysen and wife Ann towards the Eye Restoration
Programme of Lions District 306B2.
They also agreed to render further financial assistance for this
worthy cause. District Chairman, Lion Mahen Kariyawasam was instrumental
in organising the cash donation.

District Governor Dr. Priyanka Baddevithana and Club President
of Lions Club S. A. A. Munasudeen at the Street Parade in
Pothuvil with school bands, school principals, parents and
students who passed the scholarship exam. The Parade went
through the main street headed for the MOH Building for the
Award Presentation.

The Chairman of Sri Lanka Optometric Association Lion Sandaka
Lenagala who is the Team Leader and District Governor’s Programme
Coordinator for Gift of Sight programme organized a Model Eye Screening
Camp at Mirihana Police Station to screen the eyes of Police Personnel,
their relatives and members of the Judiciary.
This was organised in accordance with District Governor Priyanka
Baddevithana’s programme to serve the entire Police force serving
communities in the District 306C2 with the main service thrust of
Lionism world over to preserve sight.
District Governor emphasized the importance of recognising the
valuable contribution our officers of Sri Lanka Police are making to
society. He explained that the development and progress of any society
is in direct proportion to the degree of due consideration given to
those who are deserving of attention and care.
Since Police Officers have a busy schedule taking scientific eye
screening facility to their work place was one way of recognizing their
valuable public service in maintaining law and order.
Two modern fully equipped mobile eye care buses were provided to the
location by Techno-Vision to facilitate diagnostic screening by
qualified personnel using state-of-the-art equipment. The project was
facilitated by the Lions Club of Udahamulla.
Much Needed infusion pumps for Cancer Hospital
The Rotary Club Of Colombo Mid City donated 3 Critical care Accurate
Infusion Pumps to the National Cancer Institute Maharagama. These
infusion Pumps assist to regulate the dosage when Chemotherapy is
administered to the Patients which is very vital to avoid side effects.
Dr. Kanishka Karunarathne who is the Director Of the N.C. I,
Maharagama, stated that there is a great need for Infusion Pumps, since
these have a life span of only three years, and what is currently
available with the hospitals are inadequate. The cost of one unit is Rs.
125,000.00.

Hemasiri De Silva hands over the key of the Rescue Engine
valued over 90 million SL rupees to the Army Commander
Sarath De Fonseka at a ceremony held at the Army
Headquarters. President of the Lions Club of Koswatte Lion

Mahendra Amarasuriya was accorded a warm welcome at a “Road
Parade” at his birth place, Galle. This event was organised
by Lions District 306 A1 and District 306 A2. Here Lion
Mahendra Amarasuriya being conducted to the venue in
