Pineapple promotional drive in Karachi
The Consulate General of Sri Lanka in Karachi organised a Sri Lankan
pineapple promotional campaign in the super markets 'Park Towers' and
the 'Forum' on November 23 and 24 , respectively. The objectives of this
promotional campaign included an increase in pineapple imports from Sri
Lanka by the current importers.
The pineapple cutting demonstration was performed by the Chefs from
the Sheraton Hotel, Karachi. Some Pakistani women interested in cutting
pineapple were taught by the chefs how to cut it properly.
The pineapple pieces were served to the guests and the public who
visited the Park Towers and the Forum.
More than 5,000 people visited the pineapple show. In addition to the
pineapple promotional campaign, Sri Lankan Airlines, Dilmah Tea Agent in
Karachi and Citilink Tours for Sri Lanka tourism participated in this
event with separate stalls.
The Sri Lankan Airlines Office in Karachi offered two return tickets
to Sri Lanka for the two winners at the Lucky Draw Raffle held during
promotional campaign.
Sri Lankan pineapple has penetrated into the Pakistani market after
the implementation of the Pakistan-Sri Lanka Free Trade Agreement with
effect from June 2005.
