HATHOON SHERIFFDEEN
Two elevators fabricated here, will be exported to Bangladesh by
Dipra Engineers. The cost of this project is Rs. 2.5 million.
Managing Director, Dipra Engineers D. D. Anton said this project is
the first project for Bangladesh by their company.
"We are working to increase our market share in this area. Since the
elevator fabricating business is a very complicated job, companies
catering to this sector is low.

"Our representatives will be sent to Bangladesh to promote our
company. We are also working to capture the Maldivian market," he said.
"In Sri Lanka, only a few companies provide this service. The
business is a profitable business to the country and it saves foreign
exchange. "We have been importing the full units from various countries.
This was very costly. Fabricating the elevators is less costly than
importing the whole units," Anton said.
"The industry faces difficulty in finding experienced and skilled
workers and holding them for long. Our experienced technicians in this
sector don't stay in the country for long. This is the crucial problem
we face. These employees gain experience for a short period working with
us and find jobs in various countries with good remuneration, he said.
He said the demand for elevators within the country is 10 to 15 per
month. We can only supply a maximum of five per month. This business
demands a huge capital expenditure on its expansion. There are enough
technologies we can use to improve productivity.
"We spend a lot on maintenance and after sales service in this
business. We have fixed 700 elevators so far and still we are working
with our first project as maintainers of elevators," he said.
"We import elevators from China. These are imported as full units and
we fix them for commercial purposes. We have adopted European technology
for fixing these units," he said. |
