Royal College forced a draw to their inter school cricket tournament match against Isipatana College concluded at Reid Avenue yesterday.

Royal: 193 and 182 for 4 (A. Malwatte 57, S. Hettiarachchi 89, D. Nanayakkara 32 n.o, P. Deshappriya 2 for 35).

Isipatana: 288 (A. Rabil 73, L. Fernando 49, A. de Silva 33, Y. Abeykoon 4 for 45, H. Mawjood 3 for 91, A. Boteju 3 for 45).


ECB Chief to open tsunami village

The England cricketers along with the Chairman of England Cricket Board (ECB) and Wales Lord and Mrs. Gilles Clark and Chief Executive ECB are to participate at the opening of Hampton Village Sri Lanka created by Dr. Upali Wickramasekara, a Sri Lankan living in UK on Saturday 15 December at Ahangama.

The Chairman will name a road as Lord Mawatha in the village. Minister of Sports Gamini Lokuge and members of Sri Lanka Cricket team are also expected to participate.


Horse Racing

For the first time, the Sri Lanka Turf Club has organised a race meet for the benefit of the Christmas time holiday makers to Nuwara Eliya. The meet is scheduled for December 24.

The main event for the day will be run for the Prime Trophy sponsored by Prime Land (Pvt) Ltd. A large number of entries have already been received by the organisers.


Foreign competitors for next year’s MAF meet

The Mercantile Athletic Federation conducted its annual Athletic Championship recently at Sports Ministry ground on a successful note. President of the MAF Ashley de Abrew was the chief guest and distributed the awards.

Abrew speaking on the occasion said the Federation celebrates it silver Jubilee next year. To commemorate the Jubilee, the Federation has made arrangements to hold the championship with the participation of foreign competitors.

He further said that this year’s meet produced six meet records where over 350 competitors from various firms battling it out. With more participation expected next year and with the addition of foreign competition more records are expected to be lowered. He said that with the Silver Jubilee celebrations the meet too will be conducted on a grand scale.


NSNA Awards today

The Nationalised Services Netball Association will hold its awards ceremony today at the Castle Banquet Hall, Borella from 6.00 p.m. onwards.

The winners and special award winners are to receive their trophies and certificates.
