Save power to prevent rate hike - CEB

The Ceylon Electricity Board yesterday warned consumers to use power sparingly or pay more for their electricity beginning next year. Announcing a major awareness campaign for energy conservation, CEB Chairman Udayasri Kariyawasam told the media that in the event of the CEB failing to save at least six million units of power, there would be no alternative but to raise electricity charges by Rs. 4.65 per unit from 2008.

Clear titles for Kilinochchi, Mullaitivu lands before long - President

President Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday expressed confidence that the day residents of Kilinochchi and Mullaitivu get clear titles for their lands is not far away, hinting that the two areas will soon be liberated from the clutches of the LTTE.

Rains displace 273 in Batticaloa, winds damage houses in Polonnaruwa

Heavy rains in the Battcaloa district have displaced 273 persons belonging to 73 families. The Batticaloa District Secretariat has taken measures to provide them relief including dry food rations, the Disaster Management Centre said.

Carsons invests Rs. 700m on 'Metropolis' housing project

Carson's Real Estate Management will construct Sri Lanka's largest condominium complex outside Colombo in Mount Lavinia named Metropolis. The Group, which has diversified into real estate will invest Rs. 700 million for the Mount Lavinia project and for two other apartment projects in Kotte and Athurugiriya.
