Indonesian prelate here to open Sanghavasa
The Most Ven. Pannavaro Thera, Mahanayaka of the Indonesian Sangha
Sabha along with an Indonesian Buddhist delegation arrived here
yesterday.
He is in Sri Lanka as the special invitee to open the newly
constructed Sanghavasa at Kuruppukanda Vihara, Godagama at 9.00 a.m.
today. He also functions as the Vice President of the World Buddhist
Sangha Council.
‘Skills’ at Fort Railway station
‘Skills’, a photography exhibition to celebrate abilities of disabled
persons is on at platform number 5 and 6 at the Fort Railway Station,
Colombo. The photography exhibition organised by Handicap International
Sri Lanka will be on until January 4.
The exhibition displays photographs of Sri Lankan photographers,
Anoma Rajakaruna, Menika Van Der Pooten and Gemunu Amarasinghe and
French photographer Philippe Merchez who has specialised in disability
photography.
The exhibition will tour the country throughout 2008 at selected
public locations and railway stations.
Embroidery exhibition in Negombo
A ribbon and hand embroidery exhibition sponsored by the Negombo
Muslim Women’s Association will be held at the Jabir Hajiyar Memorial
Hall in Periyamulla, Negombo tomorrow and Sunday from 9.00 a.m. to 6.00
p.m.
Chief guest Alhaj Zaheem Nazoordeen will open the exhibition at 9.00
a.m. tomorrow.
The exhibition will be held on the second day under the patronage of
Attorney-at-Law A. A. Basheer Ahamed, who will present certificates to
participants.
Monthly lecture series
The monthly lecture of the Royal Asiatic Society of Sri Lanka will be
held on December 31 at 5 p.m. at the Gamini Dissanayake auditorium,
Mahaweli Centre, 96, Ananda Coomaraswamy Mawatha, Colombo 7.
The lecture titled ‘The Extended Mahavamsa’ presented by Prof.
Chandra Wickramagamage is open to the public.
Memorial orations
Dr. Ariaranee Gnanathasan MD. MPhil, FRCP (Lond), Senior Lecturer and
Consultant Physician will deliver the K. Rajasuriya Memorial Oration on
‘Syndromic Approach to Snake Identification - a Clinico Epidemiological
Study of Victims of Snake Bites.’
The lecture organised by the Ceylon College of Physicians will be
held today at 6.30 p.m. at the Lionel Memorial Auditorium, Wijerama
Mawatha, Colombo 7.
Dinner dance
Royal College Group of ‘82 will celebrate 25 years of leaving College
at Water’s Edge today with a dinner dance with bands Misty and Cosmic
Rays and other entertainers in attendance.
Clifford Richards will compere the show. All who joined Royal Junior
School in 1970, O/Levels in 1979 and A/Levels in 1982 at Royal College
have organised this event.
Special meeting
A special meeting of all Old Boys of Prince of Wales’ College,
Moratuwa who have excelled in various professions will be held tomorrow
at 3.00 pm at the college main hall.
The purpose of the meeting is to get the Old Boys’ advice, guidance
and support for the school’s further development. |
