Ananda junior cricketers enter second round

Ananda College junior cricketers did their school proud by entering the second round of division one, two and three in the All Island Schools Under 13 Cricket Tournament.

The teams coached by former Moratu MV cricketer Lucky Rogers Fernando has performed well during the first round of the tournament.

In the second round also they have fared really well. Ananda College ‘A’ team which is captained by Isuru Abeyratne entered the second round by defeating Asoka Vidyalaya and Kalutara Vidyalaya on the first innings.

So far they have played two matches in the second round by winning one and drawing other match.

Against Dharmaraja College, Kandy they scored a resounding first innings win with T. Athulathmudali scoring 68 and D. Madushan making 57. I. Gunasekera bowled best to capture five wickets for 29 runs to restrict Dharmaraja team to mere 59 all out.

Ananda 248 for 3 dec. (T. Athulathmudali 68, O. Mahadiwulwewa 33, K. Perera 47, D. M. Dushan 57).

Dharmaraja 59 all out (S. Karunaratne 21, T. Abeygunasekara 2 for 8, I. Gunasekara 5 for 24, T. Athulathmudali 3 for 11) and 5 wickets for 7 runs (D. Wijesinghe 30, I. Gunasekara 2 for 34).

In the division two, the team led by Malith Rodrigo has won two matches and drawn the rest of the matches in the first round of the tournament. So far they have played two matches in the second round but bad weather curtailed both matches.

Ananda ‘B’ 209 for 8 dec. (T. Gunasekera 28, S. Thevahettige 23, S. Manwelage 49, D. Wijerathna 22, G. Warnakulasooriya 23 n.o., P. Amarasinghe 4 for 36, H. Gunaratne 2 for 92).

Sri Jayawardanapura, Kotte 103 for 4 wickets (M. Maduhansa 22, P. Madusanka 37, I. Bandaranayake). Ananda ‘B’ vs Debarawewa National School played on December 16 at Debarawewa grounds.

Ananda 139 all out (L. Jayasekara 25, S. Manuwelege 20, S. Rodrigo 17, D. Lakmihira 2 for 23, P. Dilantha 3 for 31, D. Lakmal 2 for 11).

Debarawewa National School 80 for 4 wickets (L. Dayarathna 26, N. Francisco 2 for 21). Match drawn.

Ananda College ‘C’ team which has played five matches in the first round. Although they lost to Thurstan and Prince of Wales, Moratuwa they entered the second round with wins over Mahanama College and Henry Olcott College.

In the second round they have played a match against Trinity College at the Police ground Kandy and pulled it off by two wickets.

Trinity College 150 all out (V. Gunasekara 16, N. Yatigammana 28, P. Palpita 4 for 9, D. Wijesinghe 2 for 26).

Ananda 151 for eight (O. Kularathna 19, V. Prathiba 74, D. Alwis 12, B. Jayasundara 4 for 28, N. Yatigammana 3 for 30).
