St. Thomas’ and Sangamitta athletic champions

The Matale district inter-school track and field meet was held at Bernard Aluvihare Stadium, Matale recently.

At the meet St. Thomas College (National Schools) won the junior boys’ championship obtaining 68 points while the junior girls’ championship was won by the Sangamitta College, Matale and Hatthota Amuna MV. They obtained 29 points each.

Meanwhile Church College, Matale gained 27 points and became junior boys’ runners-up. The girls runners-up were Kuruwela Mahinda Rajapaksa MV and Dambulla Weera Mahan Jayamaha MV getting 15 points each.

So also the best athlete was Nilanga Umesh Kumara - under 12, while under 14 Romesh Maduwansa Konara of Minipura MV was the best athlete.

Chinta Sudasheela Kumari of Weera Mahan Jayamaha MV, Dambulla became the girls’ best athlete - under-16.

This sports meet was organised by the Sports Development Ministry and the awarding of prizes and certificates were done by district coordinating officer Malani Edirisuriya and Sports Officer Ranjith Aluvihara.
