Second Lieutenant injured in Wednesday’s blast dies

Second Lieutenant Saranga Kanista Dissanayake injured in Wednesday’s Slave Island bomb blast, died at the Colombo National Hospital yesterday. Four persons, including two students and a soldier died in the blast earlier.

Colombo Fort Magistrate and Additional District Judge Namal Bandara Balalle visited the Colombo National Hospital last morning and directed police to record evidence of the deceased’s relatives and release the body after completing the post mortem.

The funerals of the two students, Pathum Divanka Chathura Dissanayake, 14, and Malith Lasidu Bandara, 16, will take place today at the Borella General Cemetery.

The Judge directed Inspector W.M. Chandratilleke, OIC, Keselwatta Police and Inspector Geethika Bodhipaksha, to submit a comprehensive report in connection with their investigations to Court.

Investigators said 24 persons including 10 Army personnel who were injured in the blast are receiving treatment at the Colombo National Hospital.

Investigators told Court they have recorded statements from 25 persons.
