Kalutara Town Club gets modern indoor nets
K. A. Perera Wadduwa special corr.
To be the recipient of a gift of a complete, modern, upto date
cricket indoor nets is indeed a cause for jubilation.
The proud donor of this gift is the Kalutara Town Club's Rasantha and
Dr. Sarath Seneviratne who have graciously come forward as the donors,
to meet the entire cost of this building and also see to the
installation of a bowling machine.
Construction work of the building is now in its final stage. It has
been built in memory of Kingsley Wickramasinghe a former President and a
long standing active member of the club, who happens to be the father of
Mrs. Seneviratne.
Over the years, Kalutara has provided cricketers to our national
team. The likes of M. K. Albert of yesteryear fame. Dulip Liyanage and
Jayantha Silva of not so long ago and presently T. M. Dilsan, Malinga
Bandara and Sujeewa Silva.
Seneviratne was a cricketer of repute, who had to give up his cricket
career for reasons best known to him. How could they achieve success,
without the basic facilities? Was the question Dr. Seneviratne asked and
prompted them to gift this building in the hope that Kalutara could
produce cricketers.
Rohan Cooray, President of Kalutara Town Club to whom the development
of the game of cricket, is the only aim and ambition, with his
dedication, was able to win the prize, which when completed, will be a
fitting edifice, signifying the commitment and dedication of those
involved in the game of cricket, its development and progress.
Cooray gave his assurance that this building will be put to the best
use and will strive to produce cricketers of excellence.
If you are committed to your task and ready, willing and able, then
there is nothing, which would retard the progress.
He appeals to all cricket loving sportsmen, to rally round the club
and work together to achieve the aspiration of the donors by making use
of local talent and harnessing it to produce good cricketers.
