Unsuitable food items destroyed

A team of Public Health Inspectors (PHIs) attached to the Medical Officer of Health Office for Dambulla destroyed several stocks of dry foods unsuitable for consumption during a series of recent raids in Dambulla.

These food items including gram, dhal, dried fish, big onions, white onion and ‘Koththamalli’ were about to be released to retail markets.

The PHIs found the food stocks while they were stored in the Dambulla Economic Centre, the report said, adding that the stores belong to a private sector wholesale businessman.

Eighteen thousand killogrammes of food items unfit for human consumption were thus removed from the market, it was pointed out.

Wet conditions in Kandy

Kandy is experiencing extremely wet conditions and the Sun has not come out upto Wednesday (January 9th) causing much inconvenience to the residents.

The afternoons are extremely cold and the hilly areas like Hantane, Uduwela, Anniewatte are covered with thick mist in the nights and early mornings.

Casual workers in various places who work in the fields are affected as their employment depends on the weather.

Even if the rain ceases the cloudy and overcast conditions prevent sunshine falling over the hill capital.
