China criticises Taiwan over UN referendum
China warned Saturday that Taiwan’s decision to
hold a referendum on its bid for UN membership could threaten peace
in the Asia-Pacific region, state media said. Taiwan announced on
Friday it would hold two referendum on bidding to join the world
body at the same time as presidential elections next month.

Japan to invite Asian nations to G8 summit
Japan is considering inviting Asian countries,
including China and ASEAN states, to this year’s G8 summit, a
newspaper reported Sunday. Japan will host the summit in Toyako, a
lakeside resort on the northern island of Hokkaido, from July 7 to
9.

Pakistani, Indian ministers to visit Iran over pipeline
Iran said on Saturday that the petroleum
ministers of India and Pakistan would come to Tehran later this
month to discuss a multi-billion dollar project to transport Iranian
gas to India via Pakistan.
