Sylvestrians force a draw

St. Sylvesters College staged a fine recovery in the second innings to force a draw in their schools Lemonade Cup cricket tournament match against President’s College Rajagiriya at Police Grounds, Kandy yesterday.

The Sylvestrians were trailing behind on first innings by 166 runs and were reeling at 44 for 4 at one stage before skipper Mohamed Feshal 72 and Chanaka Silva 105 not out put on 145 for the fifth wicket and helped them to avoid an innings defeat.

If not for this partnership the Sylvestians could have been in deep trouble. Chanaka Silva who scored his second century for the season’s reached his hundred in 90 balls.

For Presidents College Sanath Silva hit an aggressive 96 with 11 fours and 6 sixes off 90 balls. He was associated in a fourth wicket stand 135 with Chamath Silva (54).

St. Sylvesters 161 all out in 48.4 overs (Roshan Jayatissa 82, S. Ebilimeegama 19, A. Eriyagama 14, N. Silva 12 not out, T.S. Perera 5 for 47, I.P.
