"Lanka offering attractive and rewarding life opportunities"

Delivering the keynote address at the 22nd LBR-LBO CEO Forum held at the Cinamon Grand Hotel Colombo yesterday under the theme" From 0.2 to 30,000 -Developing a Global Market Leader" Chairman Jinasena Group Dr. Nihal Jinasena pointed out that the quality of life in Sri Lanka has improved beyond recognition and salary levels, in the region of half a million Rupees a month, are not at all unusual.

Canada's Niko bids for blocks in Mannar

Niko Resources Ltd., a reputed Canadian company which has very strong operational activities in Asia has bidded for all three blocks of the Mannar basin. Calgary-headquartered Niko Resources Ltd. was the first foreign company to produce oil and gas in India.

Many foreign investors are attracted to Sri Lanka because of the relative ease in setting up enterprises in the country. A Japanese enterprise FDK Lanka at the BOI Katunayake Export Processing Zone manufactures advanced electronic components. Sri Lankan workers can easily be trained to perform complex work processes.

The agriculture sector grew moderately, despite weather related setbacks in the tea and paddy cultivations. Performance in the rubber, coconut, minor export crops and livestock sectors were on par with expectations. The fisheries sector showed strong recovery reaching the pre-tsunami levels. A recovery in the tea production was also observed in the latter part of the year. The industrial sector recorded a healthy growth which was mainly attributable to expansions in factory industry, construction and mining and quarrying sectors. Central Bank
