EU assistance for local leather industry
A discussion took place recently at the Export Development Board (EDB)
between Minister of Export Development and International Trade Prof. G.L.
Peiris, and Ambassador for the European Union (EU) in Sri Lanka Julian
Wilson, that centered on the promotion of the Footwear and Leather
products industry in Sri Lanka and efforts to get EU assistance to
promote such products in the international market.
Among the others in attendance were Roshan Lyman, head of the EU
Political and Trade Representative Committee, Nimal Samarakkody,
Chairman, Advisory Committee on Leather Products of the Ministry of
Export Development, Chandralal de Silva, Chairman, Sri Lanka Footwear
Manufacturers’ Association, Ranjith Hettiarachchi, Director, Samson
Exports Ltd., J.F.M. Fonseka, Export Manager, Bata and Ms. Sujatha
Weerakoon, Ms. Jeewani Siriwardene, Ms. Chitranjali Dissanayake and Ms.
K.A.T. Saram, Director-General, Director, Deputy Director and Assistant
Director respectively of the EDB.
