Assessor caught in the act

An assessor of the Inland Revenue Department of Anuradhapura was taken into custody by officers of the Commission into Investigate Bribery or Corruptions while attempting to take a Rs. 45,000 bribe from a businessman from Kekirawa.

The assessor had asked for the bribe from the businessman to grant him tax relief illegally.

The assessor produced before the Anuradapura Magistrate was remanded till February 28.
