Mahanama College, Colombo were declared winners on Duckworth Lewis system in their inter-schools limited over cricket match against S. Thomas’ College, Mount Lavinia played at latter’s ground on Thursday. The match had to be called off due to rain.

Mahanama 170 all out in 47.1 overs. (Maduka Dharamawardena 50, Vinod Kaluarachchi 43, Dhananjaya Maduranga 36, Faheem Saleem 4/23, Nilshan Fernando 2/24).

S. Thomas’ College 97 for 6 in 26.3 overs (Ashan Fernando 22, R. Nirushan 15, Dinesh Soysa 16, Sohan Samarasooriya 3/21).

Sebastianites C and AC recorded a healthy 272 for 6 with a fine knock of 79 runs by H. A. H. U. Lankan CC get 195/7

Lankan CC scored 195 for 7 against Moratuwa SC on the first day of their Premier League Tournament got underway at R. Premadasa Stadium, Colombo, yesterday. M. U. Fernando scored an unbeaten 70 runs to bring up the Lankan CC’s score.

An unbeaten knock of 79 runs by G. A. S. Perera Panadura helped Panadura Sports Club to score 239 runs for 8 against Police Sports Club on the opening day of their Premier League Tournament began at Police Park grounds, Colombo yesterday.

A splendid century by H. H. C. Kavinga helped Singha Sports Club to register a vigorous 267 for 9 against Saracens Sports Club on the first day of the Premier League Tournament fixture worked off at NCC grounds, Colombo, yesterday.

M. L. R. Karunaratne was on a good form to capture 4 wickets while S. C. Serasinghe took three wickets for Saracens.

S. Thomas’ College, Mount Lavinia took full control of their cricket encounter against De Mazenod College, Kandana at Mount Lavinia.

After bowling out Mazenodians for 132. The Homesters replied with 4 for 127 when rain brought an end to the day’s play with half an hour left for play.

Old Royalists and Old Thomians clash for Chulaka De Zoysa Memorial Trophy

The Traditional Cricket Match between Old Royalists and Old Thomians for Chulaka de Zoysa Memorial Trophy will be played on 2 March 2008 at the Sinhalese Sports Club Grounds, Maitland Crescent, Colombo 7.

In its fourteenth year, the match will be played in Twenty20 format. There will also be an “Over 40” age group Twenty20 encounter for this year in addition.

Associated Motorways will be the sponsor of these two matches.

Sparkling knock of 79 by Banuka in drawn game

Prince of Wales’ College, Moratuwa drew with Royal College, Colombo in their interschool division one under twenty cricket match played for Dr. O. L. F. Senaratne Challenge Cup.

Resuming at 84 for 4 Royalists were all out for 144 runs with Chanaka Bogoda contributing 40 runs. Shivantha Kumara bagged 4 for 38. Following on visitors did well to score 142 for 4 wickets when play was stopped at 4.45 p.m. due to bad light. Highlight of the Royal second innings was a sparkling 79 runs by Banuka Rajapakse with eight hits to the ropes and five sixes.

Kern, Fonseka help Wesley get 205

St. Sebastian’s College, Moratuwa scored 19 for one in their first inning in reply to Wesley College total of 205 in their inter-school under-20 division one cricket tournament match pilot at Moratuwa for the Lemonade Trophy. Winning the toss Wesleyites batted first and their score consisted of two good knocks by Ryan Kern (84) and A. Fonseka (85). Anuk de Alwis captured 4 for 62.

Chief scores: Wesley 205 (A. Fonseka 85, Ryan Kern 84, Anuk de Alwis 4 for 62, Janitha Jayawardena 3 for 38). St. Sebastian’s 17 for one.
