First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa visited the China National Children’s Centre on Sunday. The China National Children’s Centre (CNCC), affiliated to the All China Women’s Federations, was founded in 1982. It’s a national professional organisation dedicated in extracurricular education for children and the applied research on child development. It also serves as a window for communication and exchanges between Chinese children and those from other countries. The CNCC’s motto is “Everything for children”.

Navy rescues 71 illegal emigrants from Myanmar and Bangladesh

The Sri Lanka Navy yesterday rescued 71 suspected illegal emigrants from Myanmar and Bangladesh after approaching their wooden hull vessel marooned in the sea 150 nautical miles east of Mullaitivu, Navy Spokesman Commander D.K.P. Dassanayaka told the Daily News.

HNB Group records Rs. 3.2 bn profit in 2007

Hatton National Bank, its subsidiaries and associate companies continued with its impressive performance for the third consecutive year in 2007 by reporting a 47.5% increase in pre tax profits to Rs. 4,566 million. Post tax profit attributable to the group was Rs 3,199 million which was a 40.5% increase over 2006.
