Apparel workers well looked after
The average maintenance cost per worker in the
local apparel sector is three times higher than other countries in
the region. CEO of Orit Apparels Lanka (Pvt) Ltd and Board member,
BOI Channa P. Palansuriya said comparing with other countries in the
region local apparel industry bears the highest average of
maintaining cost per worker. "The average maintaining cost per
worker is USD 150 to USD 200 in Sri Lanka and this is USD 60 in
countries like Bangladesh and China," he said.

More IT opportunities for Lankan youth
Sri Lanka could not fulfil over 70 per cent of
employment opportunities that were offered for the IT industry last
year, said Regional Manager Corporate Responsibility Cisco, India
and SAARC Lokesh Mehra.Speaking at the Cisco Media offsite 2008 at
Heritance Ahungalle last evening he said last year the demand for IT
professionals in the Asia Pacific which includes Sri Lanka was over
350,000 and this is expected to increase by 25 per cent in 2009.
