Speaker W.J.M. Lokubandara told Parliament yesterday that President
Mahinda Rajapaksa never asked him not to
appoint a Parliamentary Select Committee (PSC) into the MiG-27 deal.
The Speaker made this statement as a response to the question raised
by the Chief Opposition Whip Joseph Michael Perera as to whether the
Speaker appointed a Parliamentary Select Committee on the MiG-27 deal.
Minister Jeyaraj Fernandopulle raised this question when the debate was
in progress after the statement made by Chief Opposition Whip Perera
with regard to the transfer of the Director General of the Commission to
Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption.
