Export Development and International Trade Minister Prof. G.L. Peiris led Sri Lanka’s delegation to the third ministerial meeting to review the South Asia Free Trade Agreement (SAFTA) in New Delhi last week. The Minister addressed SAARC Trade Ministers at the plenary sessions which were presided over by India’s Commerce and Industry Minister Kamal Nath. The two Ministers engaged in bilateral discussions about strengthening the trade relationship between Sri Lanka and India and political developments in Sri Lanka. Prof. Peiris also met Nepal Finance Minister Ram Sharan Mahat. He took advantage of his visit to New Delhi to have a detailed discussion with one of India’s best-known constitutional lawyers K.K. Venugopal on issues connected with Sri Lanka’s international trade. He also met Prof. Amita Singh of Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. Here the Minister with the delegation.


Batticaloa Polls:

Polls campaign ends today

Campaigning for the March 10 Batticaloa Local Polls will end by midnight today, 48 hours ahead. All arrangements have been finalised for the Local Government Election, slated to take place on Monday after a lapse of 14 years.
