BASL Law Week

The BASL Law Week will be held on March 15 and 16 at the Colombo University Law Faculty, BASL Chairman, President's Counsel Nihal Jayamanne said.

This year's theme would be 'Legal Awakening and Social Justice.'

The Legal Aid Commission, University Law Faculty, Centre for Study of Human Rights, Sarvodaya, The Women in Need and Governmental and Non-Governmental Organisations will participate.

Service of blessing

A special service replete with praise, worship and anointed prayer for individual blessings as a forerunner to Good Friday and Easter will be held at the Cathedral of Christ the Living Saviour, Bauddhaloka Mawatha, Colombo 7 at 10.30 a.m. on March 9.

This service open to all is designed to provide an understanding of spiritual truths while invoking blessings upon congregation members. The Speaker and Minister at this service, conducted under the umbrella of the Ministry of 'Peace For All' will be Dr. Vijaya Corea.

Prophet's b'day celebrations

Prophet Muhammed's birthday celebrations 2008 organised by the Galle Muslim Cultural Association will be held at the Galle Fort Meera Mosque from March 9 to 19 from 8.30 p.m. to 10.00 p.m.

Women's Day walk

A special walk to mark International Women's Day organised by the Women's Centre will be held from Katunayake-Aweriwatta Junction on March 9 at 3.00 p.m. Women employees attached to the Biyagama, Katunayake and Koggala Free Trade Zones will participate.

Mahinda Club AGM

The 11th Annual General Meeting of the Mahinda Club will be held at the OPA Auditorium 275/75, Prof. Stanley Wijesundara Mawatha (off Bauddhaloka Mawatha), Colombo 7 on March 16 at 9.30 a.m. It will be held under the patronage of Palitha Kumarasinghe, President Counsellor.

Panchali on Sunday

After 50 years from Dr. Ediriweera Sarachchandra's creation of Maname and Sinhabahu, Panchali, the first stylised drama of Ananda Senaratne is on stage. Marking a new milestone in the ancient Sri Lankan stylised drama (Naadagama) history, Panchali will be staged as the first public commercial show at Lumbini Theatre, Colombo 5 on March 9 at 3.30 p.m. and 6.30 p.m. The special show at 3.30 p.m. is for university students, schoolchildren and the public.

Job market

Vocational education, on the job training and employment opportunity development will be initiated on March 8 from 9.00 a.m. to evening, parallel to International Women's Day at Saviya Women's Vocational Training Centre, Nupe, Matara.

Welfare project

The Health Ministry, Western Provincial Health Ministry and Western Provincial Council Education Ministry will start a welfare project in the Western Province on March 12.
