The annual convention of the SLFP Women’s Organisation was held at Temple Trees under President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s patronage yesterday. Here the President lighting the traditional oil lamp to inaugurate the proceedings. First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa, Kusum Wickramanayaka, Southern Province Governor Kumari Balasuriya and Youth Affairs Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi were also present.

6,425 Police personnel on duty:

The pre-election campaign for the Local Government poll in Batticaloa ended on a peaceful note yesterday, with the number of reported incidents of violence being an all time low.

Aitken Spence Hotels will go for a joint venture hotel project with an Indian hotel company Floatels India Limited in Cochin. The total investment would be around US $ eight million and Aitken Spence will undertake the management of the entire hotel under the agreement,
