The Local Government elections in Batticaloa
ended yesterday on a successful note, with a 60 per cent voter
turnout. It will be remembered as one of the most peacefully

Four schoolchildren among six injured in Tiger blast
One person was killed and six injured in an
explosion at Wellawatte yesterday morning. Among the six injured
were four schoolchildren. According to police an explosive device
was concealed in a parcel placed on the island separating the Galle
Road carriageway. A beggar had been spotted trying to open the
parcel which triggered off the explosion killing him on the spot.
