German ship calls at Colombo Dockyard for repairs

MV. Orion accommodated in CDPLC’s 125,000 DWT drydock during her
recent repair call. |
MV Orion (25,003 DWT) container carrier under the management of Alpha
Shipmanagement, Bremen, Germany called at Colombo Dockyard PLC (CDPLC)
during January 2008 for her special survey and drydocking repairs. WMC
Webelburg Marine Consulting GmbH deputised the attending superintendents
for this first call to Colombo.
During this first drydocking call the CDPLC was entrusted to carry
out routine drydock related work.
The Dockyard team approached the work professionally with the
redelivery deadline in mind, after a collective all round effort from
all production departments, specially the steel department, dockyard
managed to complete the total work package on schedule.
The major jobs attended were steel renewal of approx. 30 tons inside
ballast tanks. On the deck side crane wires were renewed, renewal
damaged cell guides (over 89 meters). The yard’s engine department
handled the overhauling of the bow thrusters and installation of a new
MAN B & W Alpha Lubricator system.
The Ship Management handled the project with the able support from
all production department engineers and workers.
This vessel was accommodated in CDPLC’s Dock No. 4 (125,000 dwt) as a
multiple docking along with Vila Barge and Tug Wijayabahu. The repairs
were completed within the quoted days meeting the owners and the
classification society’s full satisfaction.
The attending superintendents Tobias Gubefeldt and Dirk Miedtank
represented the owners during this first call to CDPLC.
This 1997 built and classed under the Germanischer Lloyd register MV.
ORION sailed out of the yard to her next loading port on schedule.
Successful and timely completion of repairs to MV. Orion adds Alpha
Shipmanagement / WMC Marine Consulting Germany to Colombo Dockyard PLC’s
list of satisfied customers.
The local agents GAC Shipping Ltd. handled the local husbanding work
for the owners during this drydocking call. CDPLC operating in
collaboration with Onomichi Dockyard Co. Ltd. Japan, continues in her
odyssey of excellence spearheading the frontiers of Sri Lankan
Industrialisation. |
