President orders probe into Customs swindle:
Seized goods sold for song
President Mahinda Rajapaksa has issued
instructions to the Finance Ministry Acting Secretary Sumith
Abeysinghe to conduct an immediate investigation into an attempt by
certain elements in the Customs to release a huge consignment of
sugar at a grossly undervalued price on the pretext that the sugar
was unfit for human consumption.

TNA withdraws from EP poll at Prabhakaran's instance
LTTE leader Velupillai Prabhakaran has ordered
Tiger proxy TNA not to contest the upcoming Provincial Council
elections in the Eastern Province. He issued this order when TNA

With cylinder costing Rs. 200 less:
The Ceylon Petroleum Corporation has planned to
launch an islandwide programme to provide domestic gas to the
