TNA withdraws from EP poll at Prabhakaran's instance

LTTE leader Velupillai Prabhakaran has ordered Tiger proxy TNA not to contest the upcoming Provincial Council elections in the Eastern Province. He issued this order when TNA Parliamentarians were attending the funeral of slain colleague Sivanesan.

Each national situation is unique vis a vis human rights - Minister

With Human Rights issues taking centre stage in recent times, Minister Mahinda Samarasinghe addressing the UN has emphasised that the policy of "one size fit's all" when dealing with such issues is untenable. When it comes to promotion and protection of human rights the focus should be on facilitating capacity building to formulate and implement home grown policies, without undermining the national institutional framework of the relevant country, the Minister said.
